I recently had a customer ask me how I started my business– well, I guess you could say it all started with Dessert! I have always been one of those folks that thought a meal just wasn’t complete without it. Just a little something sweet …… I remember that one of my Mom’s favorite things was to slice just a smidge more to ” even up the cake” or spoon out a dab more just to ” make the dish look better”. Still to this day, even if it is a quick bite or a dining experience, my mind goes to the sweet ending.
So, back to my business, I have cooked for as long as I can remember. In fact, my Grandmother used to tell me that one of her fondest memories was of me at the stove, standing cooking in a chair because I was too little to reach it. So, when in 1999, I decided to try and sell all the Cakes and Desserts that I had been baking for years, I figured I would fall back on my favorites from childhood. Carrot Cake, Hummingbird Cake, Italian Cream, Coca- Cola Cake with Chocolate icing with Pecans- you just can’t celebrate without one or all of them. Luckily, the folks at Vanderbilt University felt the same and were kind enough to buy the cakes that helped me start my business 12 years ago.
I am very proud that even though my business has grown quite a bit over the years, I am still offering my favorite Desserts that I started my business with. Granted, they are offered in a few different and updated versions– as Babycakes, in mini Mason jars or in antique punch cups. They are still MY favorites and I hope that they will become YOURS at your next luncheon, party, dinner or Wedding reception!
